Information Technologies (IT) have become a critical part of today's global economy. Infrastructural development and government policies have led to an increase in the use of IT in every sphere of life. Demand for IT products and services has grown relatively rapidly over the past few years. To address the challenges faced by the Indian IT industry and growth of the domestic IT market, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India has set up Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) . A major objective in establishing IIITs is to set up a model of education which can produce best-in-class human resource in IT and harness the multi-dimensional facets of IT in various domains, such as design, manufacturing and management. These institutes :

  • Are autonomous, research-led education institutions.
  • Are set up by an Act of Parliament.
  • Are set up to contribute significantly to the global competitiveness of key sectors of the Indian economy and industry.
  • Are focused on applied research and education in IT in selected domain areas and other emerging disciplines.
