RESEARCH

A primary mandate for IIITs is to train students with skills to facilitate interdisciplinary research. In addition, IIITs are engaged in conducting specialized/customized training programs and research promotion workshops for corporate sector and educational institutions. Further, in order to bridge the demand for well talented faculties and potential researchers most IIITs offer PhD programs in Computer science, Management, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical engineering, Physics and Mathematics and encourage research in various inter-disciplinary areas. The IIITs are actively engaged in research and several funded projects from various government and non-government sectors.

Further, every year the IIITs provide internship opportunities to several highly-motivated interns during the summer (usually May/June/July) to boost awareness and interest in high quality academic research in Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing among budding engineers. The details of the goal oriented projects with problem definition, prerequisites and mentor faculties are made available by the IIITs. The candidates should explore the specific projects/areas of their interest and they should apply for internship positions at corresponding IIIT directly. Each IIIT after receiving the applications would shortlist the candidate and inform the candidate directly. The number of internships is decided by the IIITs solely depending upon the availability of the faculties and facilities. The selected interns are expected to work full time for two-to-three months on the goal oriented research problems assigned by the mentoring faculty. Intern would work directly under the supervision of his/her mentor either as a sole member or in a group project and receive personal mentoring and would have opportunities to collaborate as an author on research publications.
